ROLE | WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING?
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
As a Backend Engineering specialist at Yoco, you will have the chance to lead, collaborate and innovate with like-minded, self-motivated, driven experts to architect, build, maintain and improve the code engines, API’s and services that power our operations. The work you do will directly impact the day-to-day business of Yoco’s 70,000+ merchants, most of which are accepting card payments for the first time. 
 
At Yoco we are not building software, we are engineering prosperity for all South Africans.
 
IDEAL CANDIDATE | WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
 
Key requirements to perform responsibilities:
 
  • 10 years of working experience, or highly skilled with less. 
  • BSc+ Computer Science, or similar, or self-taught.
  • Excellent backend skills in any language (we’ll teach you Scala).
  • Excellent collaboration skills across the wider company.
  • Scalability centred thinking, with a meticulous eye for security and performance.
  • Pride in your team’s work, and an ability to lead those around you towards excellence.
Bonus points/nice to have:
 
  • Experience with Functional Programming.
  • Experience with Microservices.
  • Active involvement in Programming communities.
  • A passion for learning, and for sharing what you learn.
